What is yoga?
Yoga derived from the root word "yuj" meaning to yoke, to unite oneself. We use yoga to come back in touch with our mind, body, spirit. Sometimes our awareness can be so out of tune with modern day living that it is optimal to come back to the simplicity of self healing.
Yoga branches into many different styles such as,
Ashtanga, Bikram, Iyengar, power, restorative, and most common in the Central Valley area is Vinyasa.
We learn by starting with the foundations of yoga and treating it as a medicine through asana (postures), pranayama (breath), and meditation. Through postures we can increase core strength, improve intuition, weight management etc. Pranayama increases stamina, helps deal with strong emotions, and can bring peace and clarity to everyday life. Meditation may increase focus, help to reduce anxiety and depression.
Through this series we will learn to incorporate these principles. This yoga basic series is designed to tackle the basics of asana foundation, pranayama, and meditation. It will help deepen you're understanding of Vinyasa flow, foundation poses, body awareness, breath control, and stillness.
